Lying at 3,611.5 m above the sea level in Dolpa district, Phoksundo Lake in Dolpa is a Ramsar site (A Ramsar Site is a wetland site designated of international importance under Ramsar Convention). What’s beautiful is that the lake is the deepest lake in Nepal with a depth of 600m and is surrounded by beautiful snow-capped mountains in all the directions. In the southern belt, there are more than 20 stupas. One can also get to Shey Phoksundo National Park nearby. The Gosaikunda lake is known for its touristic as well as religious values. It is said that the lake was created by Lord Shiva himself when he had to quench a thirst after swallowing a deadly poison. However, what makes this beautiful is that there are 108 lakes in the area, all sizes, and the Gosaikunda lake melts and sips down to form the Tirshuli river, giving the entire picture a never-forgetting visual experience for the photographers.
