1. Pablo Picasso’s Les Femmes d’Alger

Pablo Picasso’s 1955 painting, Les femmes d’Alger (Version O), sold for $179,365,000 at Christie’s auction house in New York in 2015. It set a new world record for the most valuable work of art sold at auction.

2. Blue Moon Diamond

Blue Moon Diamond is a gobsmacking 12.03 carat stone, sold for $48.5 million to a Hong Kong billionaire Joseph Lau as a gift for his daughter, who was seven years old at the time.

3. Marilyn Monroe’s dress

Marilyn Monroe wore this sparkle-encrusted gown when singing “Happy Birthday” for President John F. Kennedy in 1962. This shiny item sold for $1,267,500 in New York in 1999, setting the world auction record for an article of clothing.

4. Romanée-Conti wine

A classy Asian collector paid for a lot of RomanĂ©e-Conti wine which added up to 912 glasses and sold for $1,609,776 at a Sotheby’s auction in Hong Kong.

5. John Lennon’s placard “Bed Peace”

It’s only a placard but it was created by John Lennon during the Montreal Bed-In for Peace, a pacifist event he held with his wife Yoko Ono at the height of the Vietnam war in 1969. It went for $154,628
