The engineering and architecture company Aurecon is teaming up with Santiago Calatrava in the construction of the tallest tower in the world named “The Tower”. The new tower will beat out beat out Burj Khalifa, also located in Dubai as the tallest building in the world by about 100 meters (328 feet). The project is estimated to cost around $1B and is expected to be completed by 2020.
The Tower will dwarf China’s Shanghai Tower (2,073ft), Saudi Arabia’s Abraj Al-Bait Tower (1,972ft), New York’s One World Trade Centre (1,776ft) – and will be up to three times higher than London’s The Shard (1,016ft).
The tower will be the centrepiece of Dubai Creek Harbour, a new waterfront destination of hotels, homes, shops, and restaurants.A main observation deck in the tower, called The Pinnacle Room, will have fully glazed balconies that rotate outside the main skin of the tower.
At the top will sit an oval-shaped structure offering world-class 360 degree views of Dubai, that can be seen from any of the 10 observation decks or the unique “viewing platform” called the Pinnacle Room. It will also include gardens, meeting rooms and a boutique hotel.
