OnePlus has announced plans to launch the OnePlus 3, its next flagship smartphone, on June 14th. Anyone who wants to buy OnePlus 3 will be able to buy one from the website, no invitation required. OnePlus, one of the most popular budget smartphone, launched its 1st smartphone, OnePlus one, two years ago and was regulated by an invite system. The OnePlus 3, will arrive invite-free, making it easy for everyone to buy without the hassle for the begging invitation code.
“When we started this company, we had no idea how many people would want to buy our products. We didn’t want to risk a situation where people would come to our website and find out we had no stock, and no ETA on when we would get it,” he says. “For us it’s more important to grow sustainably rather than fast, so we’d rather err on the side of caution.” OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei tells Wired.
“In year three it’s really hard to keep asking people to understand that you’re a young company an still trying to understand how to handle a supply chain,” says Pei. “It’s about time that we stopped giving ourselves excuses.”
The device launches at 12:30 pm Eastern on June 14 with a “virtual reality experience,” a spaceship environment the company calls “The Loop”
OnePlus has clarified that the price of the OnePlus 3 will be comparable to the higher-end OnePlus 2 and OnePlus One, not the base-level models as was previously reported according to Wired.
