Currently India’s “per capita” Coronavirus cases are the lowest in the world

India has currently the lowest rate of Covid-19 infection per capita.
If it grows, it could be a disaster. Everyone stay safe.

Being the 2nd largest country in the world by population, India has done a commendable job by restricting the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, which is still in Stage 2, in India. It has virtually quarantined itself from the world and its prime minister, Narendra Modi, has urged the people to break the cycle of spread of the virus by “Social Distancing” and has called out for a “Janta Curfew” on the 22nd of March, 2020.

Nevertheless, the address by prime minister Modi cautions against any form of complacency.

In this study, We analysed Total Confirmed cases vs. the Population of the country and some very interesting findings came out.

Method: We took all countries with over 100 reported cases of Covid-19 as on 19th March, 2020. Out of these 55 countries, India has the lowest per capita Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in the world. With a population of 1.38 Billion people, close to 200 cases have been confirmed which amounts to 0.11 cases per Million people. In fact India would be at the very end of this table in which we have filtered countries with over 100 confirmed cases. San Marino, Iceland and Italy top the list while Russia, Indonesia and India are the very bottom. China is at 24th position, while the UK is at 29th.

These figures are the official data as per WHO website. The country list was limited to those with over a 100 cases to filter out small countries and those that may not have adequate detection measures in place.

Here is the complete table –

Total Confirmed and new cases from WHO site as of March 19, 2020

Hindu practices can help

Various Hindu practices are particularly helpful in further spreading of this virus. They are not only part of the culture but also very scientific. Things such as “Namaste” instead of shaking hands, vegetarian diet, Pranayam and yoga go a long way in boosting immunity, and preventing the spread of such a virus.

Measures taken by Indian Government

The Indian Govt. is leaving no stone unturned in combating this Global pandemic. Be it evacuating overseas Indians – (India has the most evacuations – be it from Italy – 218 or Iran – 234) or setting up a wellness centre in Iran to undertake supervision of infected Indian pilgrims. India is also quarantining itself by banning entry from 31 countries, suspending all Visas and also visa free travel facilities for OCI card holders. All commercial international aircrafts have been stopped from 22nd of March, 2020.

Many International border crossings have also been suspended such as with Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar and Pakistan.

In a remarkable feat, India has become only the 5th country in the world to successfully isolate a strain of the novel coronavirus on the 14th of March from a very small batch of positive cases. This will be the first step towards expediting the development of vaccines.
